IMPROVEMENT work to the park and ride facilities at Flixton Railway station has begun.

The work includes resurfacing of the car park area and the provision of a cycle storage facility, landscaping and extensive safety and security measures such as new brighter lighting and CCTV.

Contractors George Cox and Sons are carrying out the work on behalf of Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

The work is expected to take around 12 weeks and will result in the closure of the station car park for that period.

However, the nearby public car park will remain open.

Councillor Andrew Fender, chairman of the TfGM committee, said: “These much needed improvements are excellent news for car park users and will provide a much safer and pleasant environment for commuters.

“Park and ride facilities are not only free of charge to passengers with a valid ticket but are also a great way to save money, reduce your carbon footprint and help ease congestion on the busy road network and in the city centre.”
