JENNIE Fleetwood, a speech and language therapist from Urmston, has won a national innovation award for contribution to her profession.

The annual Giving Voice awards, run by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), highlight the life-changing work of speech and language therapists and celebrate the creativity and commitment to the profession.

Jennie, who works for Trafford's Speech and Language Therapy Team, has worked the borough's schools and teachers to raise awareness of speech, language and communication needs. She also supported set up of Giving Voice societies at both of Manchester’s universities and attended events run in conjunction with the Stroke Association

Jennie was the main organiser for Trafford CYPS Giving Voice awards ceremony, which recognised schools, teachers and other professionals who support children with speech, language and communication needs.

The judging panel was impressed by Jennie’s commitment, creativity and success in reaching different audiences and stakeholders, as well as her future campaigning plans.

Jennie saId: My profession is really important to me and it means a lot to receive this award. Working with students has been really inspiring as they have worked so hard to get their societies set up and it was great to see them working together on so many fantastic events.

Jennie’s colleague, Jen Davies says: “Jennie is such a proactive member of Trafford’s Speech and Language Therapy Team and we thank her for her ongoing commitment to raising the profile of our profession. She champions speech and language therapy at both local and national levels and is an advocate for the team and the children she supports”.
