POLICE and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd has wished Greater Manchester’s Hindus, Sikhs and Jains a Happy Diwali.
The Festival of Lights, which begins on Thursday 23 October and lasts five days, celebrates the victory of good over evil, light over darkness and knowledge over ignorance.
Celebrated by thousands of people across Greater Manchester, it is one of the most important religious festivals in the Hindu, Sikh and Jain calendar.
Tony has sent a message of celebration to the Hindu, Sikh and Jain communities.
“I would like to wish all Hindus, Sikhs and Jains across Greater Manchester a very happy Diwali. I hope you have a wonderful time over the five days of celebration from Dhanteras all the way through to Yama Dvitiya.
“Greater Manchester is a wonderfully diverse place with a great sense of community spirit and occasions like Diwali are an opportunity to celebrate that. We each share a common vision to work together to build safer communities and take pride in where we live. I recognise the part you all play in achieving this and look forward to continuing this work.
“As your Police and Crime Commissioner I once again wish you a happy Diwali.”
