ALMOST 2,000 Trafford businesses and homes are now benefiting from high-speed fibre broadband rolled out by the £15 million Get Digital Faster programme across Greater Manchester.

More than 1,900 homes and businesses across Trafford are now making use of the service, including firms and householders in Longford and Trafford Park Village.

By 2016, Trafford will have a further 75 green street cabinets bringing high-speed fibre broadband to 7,000 homes and businesses across the borough, thanks to the £18 million Get Digital Faster partnership involving Trafford and BT.

Councillor Michael Hyman, executive member for economic growth and planning said: “It is fantastic news that businesses and households across Trafford will be able to access high speed broadband, thanks to this project.

The fact that Trafford Park is one of the first areas to have this available is particularly pleasing as, not only will it support the growth of our existing businesses in the area, but will also assist in improving the attraction of Trafford Park as one of Greater Manchester’s prime business locations.”

Steve Holmes, BT’s programme director said: “This switch to high speed, high performance technology will fire up the local economy in Trafford. We’re really pleased with the rapid progress of Get Digital Faster."

Trafford will be holding an official launch event for the Get Digital Faster programme at Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, on December 11. The event will provide further detail about the programme, the benefits of superfast broadband, and the support available to help businesses and residents make the most of faster speeds.
