WRAPPING up the year in style, Flixton Girls School has held an Academic Awards Evening to celebrate the successes of its pupils.

The event invited students who left in the Summer to collect their GCSE certificates and presented individual prizes to the highest achievers in specific areas.

This year students at Flixton Girls School have smashed all targets by gaining more than triple the number of academic A* grades, not including vocational qualifications, compared to last year.

Overall there has been a significant increase of nearly 100 per cent for the top grades of A* and A across the board with 35 per cent of all grades gaining the top A* and A grades.

In several subjects the proportion of A* and A grades was extremely high, between 60 per cent and 100 per cent.

Parents and pupils past and present were in attendance to congratulate the students and, as headteacher Julie Hazeldine noted on the night, the evening was a fitting celebration of the students and staff:

“The performances of our students over the last few years have been brilliant and this was a particularly strong academic year,” she said. “We are so proud of the pupils, who have embraced our ethos of being empowered and aspiring to excellence.”

Founded in 1933 Flixton Girls School is one of the North West’s leading high schools.
