A MAN who was murdered in Urmston has been named.

Andre Marshall was found dead just before 7.30am on Wednesday, lying in the road next to a car in Manor Park.

The 29-year-old, who police said was living in Stockport, had gunshot wounds in his torso and leg.

His next-of-kin have now been informed, police said, and a post-mortem examination has established that he died from gunshot wounds.

A GMP spokesman confirmed that Mr Marshall, formerly of Whalley Range, was a member of the Gooch gang and was jailed in 2008 for his part in an attack on a gym goer in Moss Side Leisure Centre.

Chief Superintendent Mary Doyle said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Andre at this distressing time and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation, but we now know that Andre died from gunshot wounds.

“We do not believe this was a random attack and we are still working to establish a motive which, as of yet, is not known.

“We don’t believe there is a threat to the wider community - however we have extra officers in the area to offer reassurance.

“We are still appealing for witnesses and information, so if you have any information at all, no matter how small, I would urge you to please come forward and speak to us as soon as possible.”
