A GIANT mural covered in coloured plastic lids is being created by children in Tesco Altrincham’s community room.

The work is being done under the supervision of Our Altrincham founder, Sarah Walmsley.

The 2.4 x 3.6 metre mural has been sponsored by McHale & Co Solicitors and designed by Hobbycraft along Altrincham In Bloom’s theme of ‘Birds, Bees and Butterflies’.

The Window Company helped by transporting the boards to the town centre and Sarah is now inviting small groups of children to come and stick on hundreds of coloured plastic lids, collected over the past month at Tesco, Art With A Heart, The Hub and Hobbycraft.

“It’s going to be a big, beautiful, cheerful, colourful piece,” said Sarah Walmsley, “and will be displayed in a large window on Stamford New Road throughout the summer months.

"It will brighten up the area and carries an important environmental message, encouraging passers-by to stop and think about what they’re throwing away, and consider whether it can be reused, recycled or upcycled.”

Parents can bring their children along for a half-hour lid sticking session at Tesco on May 23rd (9.30am until 1pm) and June 2nd (9.30am until 12pm). Arrange times by emailing sarahw@ouraltrincham.org
