TRAFFORD residents have had their say on where they where the second tranche of £20,000 community funding will be spent.

More than 300 people took part in the voting at Altrincham Football Club to see which groups would receive a share of Trafford Council’s Voluntary Sector Grants scheme.

The eleven projects which were successful in receiving funding were The Counselling and Family Centre, Cruse Bereavement Services, Friends of De Quincey Park, Friends of John Leigh Park, The Hub, Strong Voice – Patchwork Project, Bowdon Festival, Friends of Navigation Recreation Ground, Autism Trafford, G-Force and Altrincham Swimming Club.

The projects will bring a wide range of new activity to the south of the borough, including re-stablishing bereavement support training for volunteers, healthy eating workshops, improving park benches and picnic areas, and celebrating the anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

The successful groups were announced by Councillor Laura Evans, chairman of the Trafford South Locality Partnership, said: “It's been wonderful to see the passion and enthusiasm of the groups in the room.

“Events like this are a great way to see the investment that volunteers put in to our community and also the community making decisions that bring financial investment in to the area.

“It has been great to see so many local people getting involved in this process, and contributing to us beating our record for the amount of votes received.”

The next public voting event will take place on Saturday, July 4 at Stretford Mall Shopping Centre between 12-3pm.
