MANCHESTER United legends recreated two of the classic goals they scored against Liverpool ahead of star-studded veterans game in Stockholm.

Stepping out onto the pitch at the legendary Cliff, the home of Manchester United training from 1938 to 1999, Bryan Robson and Denis Irwin reignited the magic they displayed on the pitch during the 80s and 90s.

The walk down memory lane comes ahead of a veterans’game at Friends Arena, Stockholm on September 3, when the pair reunite in a star-studded Red Devil’s line-up against a Liverpool legends eleven.

“I think it was probably the best goal I scored for Manchester United,” said Robson as he took to the turf to recreate the goal against Liverpool which secured United’s place in the 1985 FA Cup final.

“I thought Alan Hansen and Mark Lawrenson were going to catch me so I decided to just belt it from 35 yards and it went right in the top corner.

“It was really important because we won the semi-final and went on to win the final as well.”

Relaxing in the old changing rooms at the renowned training ground, Irwin reminisced about his favourite goal against the Liverpudlian rivals from January 1994.

“Bruce Grobbelaar was in goal and we were in my favourite black kit,” he remembered. “I knocked a free-kick right over the wall but there are good and bad memories as even though I scored, we didn’t win and drew 3-3.”

Robson will manage the legends team when they travel to Stockholm next week, with Irwin taking on the role of captain.

They will be joined on the pitch by fellow former United stars including Dwight Yorke, Ronny Johnsen, Quinton Fortune, Raimond van der Gouw, Keith Gillespie, Russell Beardsmore, Clayton Blackmore, Lee Martin, Karel Poborsky, Ben Thornley and Swedish winger Jesper Blomqvist.

The Liverpool FC Legends team will be managed by all-time leading goal scorer Ian Rush, with Robbie Fowler as captain.

Joining them will be former players Jason McAteer, Didi Hamann, Sander Westerveld, Phil Babb, Stephane Henchoz, Luis Garcia, Vladimir Smicer, Bjorn Tore Kvarme, Patrik Berger, Jerzy Dudek, David Thompson, Salif Diou, Steve Harkness and Abel Xavier.

Proceeds from the match in Stockholm go to Manchester United Foundation and Liverpool FC Foundation to help support the two charities community projects.
