SALE is set to be home to a new £4.5million Travelodge hotel.

Travelodge announced on Monday that it has exchanged a contract for a new hotel on the City Gate business park, which is located next to TGI Fridays, on Cross Street.

City Gate 1, one of two existing four-storey 1980s office buildings on the site, will be converted into a 67-room hotel, complete with a bar cafe and a 75-space on-site car park.

The multimillion pound development is part of Travelodge’s £35m expansion project across Greater Manchester and will see the creation of 20 new jobs in Sale.

A planning application has been submitted and the hotel is expected to open towards the end of 2016.

Paul Harvey, managing director of property for Travelodge, said: “Manchester is at the forefront of the UK boom and is a key growth area for Travelodge. The powerhouse is a vital hub for business, tourism and is also home to four universities. Therefore we are delighted to boost our current portfolio of 16 hotels in the city with the prime addition of Sale.”

The developer of the property will be Orbit Developments, who are also the owners of the site. Orbit is member of the Emerson Group of Companies.

Mark Royle, director of the Emerson Group, said: “The recent letting to Travelodge provides both further diversification of the property portfolio and secures long term income for the group. The location of the hotel is in an area where Orbit has significant office investments and will provide current and future tenants with excellent amenity to the benefit to all.”
