TWO dads have conquered fears and gone the extra mile to help the ‘happiest little boy you could meet’.

Five-year-old James John Nuttall has spent his short life in and out of hospital, having suffered severe brain damage, chronic lung disease and fluid on the brain when he was born prematurely at just 26 weeks.

Last month, James’ father Stuart, 34, and family friend Lee Murry, 44, took on challenges in aid of ‘The Little Fighter Fund’, which was set up to adapt James’ Flixton home to fit his needs.

Dad-of-five Stuart faced his fears and did a tandem skydive on September 18 and dad-of-seven Lee completed a gruelling 22-day cycle around England.

Stuart said: “I was petrified. I am scared of heights and planes and people know that so I thought a skydive would be a great way of raising money whilst also conquering my fears.

“We have had tremendous support, there are truly good people out there. James is the happiest little boy you could meet and we couldn’t be more grateful to his supporters and Lee; he is an amazing man.”

Lee took three weeks off work to complete his challenge, which saw him cycle the length and breadth of England. He slept in a tent during the tough 1800 mile challenge.

“The only thing that kept me going was that it was for a good cause; I couldn’t let the little man down,” said the Urmston resident.

“I would like to thank anybody who has or is going to sponsor me. It’s for an amazing little boy who needs a bit of help. Human kindness is rare these days and I want to bring it back.”

So far, almost £3,000 has been raised through these challenges; family friend Jason Owen also completed the Great Manchester Run in aid of the fund.

Money raised will be used to build an extension to provide a much-needed downstairs bedroom and bathroom in James' home and fit it out with specialist equipment and sensory lighting.

Next Saturday, October 10, Lee’s son has organised a live boxing match at Flixton Football Club and money raised will be donated to The Little Fighter Fund. Visit the club’s Facebook page for details.
