MESSENGER Readers are throwing their weight behind the Altrincham Rotary Club and Salvation Army appeal.

The initiative to help families in need enjoy a Christmas that they would not normally have has really caught the imagination, says the Rotary club's Ken Garrity.

Goods are all coming in at a great rate, from small items including crayons and colouring books to larger items including dolls, teddy bears, giant trucks, books and board games.

This year the appeal also includes 'tins' of food and treats like biscuits, chocolates which will be made into food parcels.

Toys must be new and unwrapped and are for youngsters aged up to 18.

Ken said: "This year our target was raised, so we need to pull out all stops. Thanks to the generosity of local people we should hopefully reach our target but we have some way to go yet.”

Rachel Steward, from the Salvation Army, said: “As well as toys we do need food, mainly tinned meals , fruit, but also some treats for our Christmas parcels "This will go to help make a brighter Christmas for families in need in Trafford.”
