PARENTS campaigning against the withdrawal of home to school transport for disabled children in Trafford will be making a stand next Thursday.
Save Our School Bus (SOS Trafford) will be staging a protest outside Trafford Town Hall at 6.30pm on Wednesday February 17 to coincide with Trafford Council’s budget meeting.
Trafford Council withdrew transport for 16 teenagers attending Brentwood Special School, in Timperley, last September.
It has been re-instated for four children but there are still 12 youngsters affected.
The council is currently consulting on a policy to withdraw school transport for all disabled post-16 pupils.
Sally Wheatman, co-ordinator of SOS Trafford, said: “What the plan says is that Trafford will provide what they absolutely have to under the law and nothing more. The draft proposals clearly state that they will not take into consideration a carers work commitments or other family responsibilities.
“We have already seen the huge amount of pressure that has put on families who are often just about coping in very difficult circumstances.”
A change.org petition to save transport for Brentwood students has gained 1,678 supporters in just one week.
