Trafford Elections 2016: All you need to know

After the last election, the Conservatives held a majority - they had 34 seats, Labour 25 and the Lib Dems 3.

A third of Trafford's councillors – one in each ward – will be elected.

Polling stations opened 7am and will remain open until 10pm.

The count will take place after polls close, with the results expected in the early hours of Friday.

The leader of the council, Sean Anstee is defending his Bowdon seat.
