TRAFFORD residents are being reminded not to miss out on their chance to help shape the long-term future of transport in the city region.

The major 12-week public consultation on Greater Manchester’s ambitious 2040 Transport Strategy ends on September 26.

Halfway through the consultation, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) had received more than a thousand responses.

Comments received so far highlight the importance, in particular, of improving transport system integration, cycling, fares and ticketing and bus services.

Sixty per cent of responses already received are from residents in Trafford and three other districts – Manchester, Stockport and Salford – with lower response rates in other district council areas.

People right across the city region are being encouraged to have their say on the long-term proposals to create a cleaner, greener, more prosperous city region through better connections and simpler travel.

Interim Mayor of Greater Manchester, Tony Lloyd, said: “Our plans outline a simple, effective and easy to use transport system that keeps pace with Greater Manchester’s ambitions and faces up to the challenges of the next 25 years and beyond.

“It is crucial that we know the views of people from across all parts of our diverse population, to ensure that the final strategy meets the needs of everyone who lives and works in Greater Manchester.

“A high level of public input and support also puts us in a much stronger position to negotiate the funding and powers we need to deliver this ambitious strategy.

“I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t already to take this opportunity to get involved and let us know what they think of the plans.”

The 2040 Strategy considers all aspects of travel from local neighbourhoods to global markets and focuses on creating an integrated, sustainable, and well co-ordinated transport system which supports a wide range of different travel needs. For further details go to www.tfgm.com/2040.
