As a Labour Opposition Councillor in Trafford accused by the Council Leader Sean Anstee of talking down the borough and clearly having nothing whatsoever of value to contribute, I feel compelled to respond to the extremely arrogant letter penned by Cllr Anstee and Cllr Reilly in relation to the Joint Venture Contract Trafford Conservatives entered into with AMEY twelve months and the criticisms that have been made, not just by Labour Councillors but by many residents.

Perhaps Cllr Anstee should reflect on why residents have become critical; it is because they care about their environment and can visibly see it deteriorating and as we all know a clean and tidy environment contributes greatly to health and wellbeing. In addition Cllr Anstee needs to be aware that very many residents do report issues directly to the council only to become frustrated at the lack of action then taken by the council. I invite Cllrs Anstee and Reilly to view my email inbox.

Not a week goes by without my receiving of complaints from residents about the state of our roads, our parks, green open spaces, blocked street gulley drains, damaged and dangerous street furniture, overflowing street bins and so on. Furthermore all of the issues I have raised with One Trafford on behalf of residents I can corroborate and none of the images I have supplied to AMEY of environmental issues can be described as unidentifiable.

Instead of trying to defend what is becoming indefensible I would suggest Cllrs Anstee and Reilly get out and about for a walk around the borough, see the issues our residents are facing and tell us all what they intend to do about it, especially so if they want to continue ensuring Trafford remains a vibrant, thriving, clean and attractive borough for all.

Yours sincerely

Mike Freeman
