A WOULD-BE burglar wormed his way into a block of flats in Altrincham yesterday by convincing a resident to buzz him in – but he left emptyhanded.

On Tuesday August 30, a man gained access to Albert Court, in New Street, after pretending to be a delivery man.

Ringing the buzzer, he told a resident he was there to drop off a package and was let in.

The man went upstairs and smashed the window on the front door of one of the flats. He reached through the window to try and open the door but failed.

After several unsuccessful attempts to break into the flat he fled emptyhanded.

On the GMP Trafford South Facebook page officers warned: “If you live in a block of flats, always be wary about who you let into the communal area and report any suspicious behaviour to 101.”
