THE best friends of a young woman who was tragically killed in a car accident in Timperley earlier this summer are running in her memory.

Helena Thurm, 25, of Altrincham, was hit by a car near to the Park Road junction of the A56 on Monday June 20.

She was taken to hospital after suffering serious head injuries but sadly died the next day.

Best friend Ellie Dixon-Smith, from Altrincham, met Helena on their first day of Altrincham Grammar School for Girls. Helena’s family and close friends, including Ellie, were with her when she passed away.

“It was the worst day of my life and I still can’t come to terms with it,” said the 26-year-old.

“We spread her ashes at Treyarnon Bay, in Cornwall, which was where she spent many summers growing up, on the eve of her 26th birthday.”

Ellie, along with two of Helena’s closest friends Phillip McLaggan, 28, and Hannah Gilroy, 24, have decided to run the Salford 10k, taking place this Sunday, September 4, in honour of Helena’s memory.

The trio are raising money for the UK’s largest dog welfare charity Dog’s Trust, as Helena loved animals and had three family Beagles growing up.

“Anyone who knew Helena will know how much she was passionate about her Beagles, Zac, Chloe and Dolly, and how much she loved dogs in general,” said Ellie.

“The Dog’s Trust was one of her favourite charities, and one I think she would appreciate that we support.”
