A host of people from Trafford have been rewarded for their achievements and commitments in the King's New Year Honours list.

Those on the list are either from the borough or have been recognised for their work in the borough.

The list includes a trio of professors along with people who have been praised for their community work in Trafford and Greater Manchester.

This list is as follows:

Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE)

Professor Linda Joyce Merrick 

Professor Merrick is the principal of the Royal Northern College of Music and, according to the college's website, she is an "internationally-renowned clarinet soloist, recording artist and pedagogue".

She is also the chair of Conservatoires UK and the UK representative for Howarth Clarinets.

Professor Merrick, who is listed as being from Altrincham, has been awarded a CBE for her services to music in higher education.

Officers of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)

Professor Mohamed Pourkashanian 

Professor Pourkashanian, who is also listed as being from Altrincham, is the managing director of the Energy Innovation Centre at the University of Sheffield.

He has been awarded an OBE for his services to net zero research and innovation.

According to the university's website, Professor Pourkashanian has "completed numerous major research projects on clean energy technology" and has "successfully managed over 100 research contracts and grants, with a total value of in excess of £73 million".

Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)

Gwynneth Bellman JP 

Ms Bellman is a magistrate who hails from Altrincham.

She has received the MBE for her services to the Administration of Justice and to the community in Manchester.

Shelly Jayne Quinton-Hulme 

Ms Quinton-Hulme, of Manchester, has been awarded an MBE for services to the community in Stretford.

Her work includes being a chairperson of Friends of Victoria Park.

Professor Charlotte Anne Skitterall 

Professor Skitterall is the group chief pharmacist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

According to MFT's website, she had worked at the trust and its predecessor trust for more than 25 years before she stepped into the role of group chief pharmacist in 2021.

Professor Skitterall, from Altrincham, has been awarded an MBE for services to pharmacy.

Martin Tilbury

Mr Tilbury, from Sale, is the chief executive of Bumba Foundation, a charity offering opportunities to children and young people in Uganda.

He has been awarded an MBE for services to charity and to community development in Uganda, as well as to the Red Cross in the UK.

Medallists of the Order of the British Empire (BEM)

Mark Smallwood 

Mr Smallwood is the co-founder of Didsbury Gin and is also from Altrincham.

He has been awarded his BEM for services to the community in Greater Manchester during Covid-19.
