An Altrincham school is set to bring its new range of sports facilities and equipment into use, which will look to benefit the school and the wider community.

Altrincham Grammar School for Boys unveiled the new facilities and equipment at the site of the school yesterday (July 18).

It has been enabled by funds raised through the school's Sport for All – Making a Difference campaign, which was run over the past year in conjunction with fundraising company Hutt & Co, raising £640,000.

Amongst the new facilities unveiled were new football and rugby pitches with new undersoil and drainage, all vented, seeded and prepared to a Sports England standard, with a barrier around the 1st XI football pitch.

Also unveiled was a new England and Wales Crick Board-approved five-lane cricket net structure and new cricket wicket, along with football goals, rugby posts, hockey goals, indoor hockey boards and long jump pit.

Pupils at every level of the school will be able to make use of the new facilities through school and after-school clubs, while community grass-roots sports clubs from across Altrincham and Trafford will be able to use the facilities in the evenings.

The facilities will be open for use between 5pm and 7pm each evening, with planning restrictions limiting use beyond these hours.

Headmaster of Altrincham Grammar School for Boys Graeme Wright said: "This is a proud day for Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, the pupils we serve and the wider Altrincham community.

"Our ‘Making a Difference - Sport for All’ Campaign has enabled us to renovate, replace and more importantly install extensive new facilities that will counter poor weather conditions in the winter months, inspire pupils of every ability, allow extended community use for clubs in the Altrincham area and take our tradition of sporting excellence to a new level."

Donations to the campaign came from parents, past parents, alumni, local businesses and Altrincham Grammar School Developments Ltd, an independent charitable organisation established in 1998 to raise funds for vital projects and buildings at the school.
