Students in Trafford achieved a stellar set of A level results in spite of the return to pre-pandemic assessment.

Nationwide the proportion of A* grades and A grades fell for the second year in a row to a little over a quarter.

Students in Trafford, however, achieved a stellar set of A level results regardless, in particular at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys and at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls.

At Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, on Marlborough Road, 64 per cent of grades were an A* or an A.

And at Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, on Cavendish Road, 60 per cent of grades were an A* or an A.

Across the two grammar schools 32 students achieved A* grades across the board and many, many more of them are on the way to study a range of subjects at a range of universities.

Graeme Wright, the head of the boys' school, said: "On behalf of everyone in the Altrincham Grammar School for Boys community I would like to congratulate our leavers on these excellent results.

"They are not only a tribute to the dedication and hard work of the students, but also a testament to the commitment of their teachers who have prepared them so effectively over the last two years.

"I wish them all the best for the future ahead of them."

Stephanie Gill, the head of the girls' school, said: "We are delighted our students achieved such excellent outcomes as the culmination of their years of study with us.

"They are a reward for the determination and hard work our students have shown during the last two years. They also reflect the support and teaching students received from our staff.

"We are proud of all of our students and we wish them all the best for the future."
