An Urmston care home registered manager received recognition with an award at the Great British Care Awards.

Claire Callaghan won the Care Home Registered Manager Award for her work at Bowfell House on Brook Road.

According to the organisers of the Great British Care Awards, the Care Home Registered Manager Award is awarded to a manager who shows their skills in running of a residential home and supporting of its residents and its staff.

Ms Callaghan, who has more than 30 years of experience in adult social care and who is also a director of Bowfell House owner The Knoll Care Partnership, met all of these criteria and many, many more in the eyes of the judges.

These judges said: "Claire embodies the essence of inspirational leadership, achieving milestones and setting standards. Her ability to empower others is unparalleled, fostering a culture of growth and of innovation within her team. 

"Claire exemplifies the epitome of effective leadership, leaving a lasting impression on those around her. She should take pride in her accomplishments."

Bowfell House opened four and a half years ago and at its initial inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) it received a rating of "outstanding".

It received Regional Care Home of the Year at the Caring UK Awards in 2022 making it one of the best care homes in the North of England at the time.

Ms Callaghan said: "My role is made easier by an outstanding team who are on board with the values we set when starting on this journey. It was an amazing experience to be able to represent every member of the team and to be celebrated for what we have achieved. 

"The face of social care has changed beyond recognition and I am proud the team at Bowfell House are leading the way in extolling the strengths of social care."
