This image reveals what an Asda store will look like when it replaces a Booths store in Hale Barns.

The Hale Road high-end supermarket shut over the weekend to allow for the lease to be transferred.

The 30,000-square-foot store launched to considerable ceremony on The Square almost a decade ago on April 15, 2015, but in an announcement this year EH Booth & Co Ltd said an increase in costs led to a loss of profitability.

The company said all of its staff were to be transferred to Asda Ltd via Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment) Regulations, or TUPE, and it said none of its other stores throughout the North West were under threat.

They said: "Closing any store is a difficult decision and it is not a reflection of the dedication and hard work of our team at Hale Barns or across the wider business.

"We would like to thank colleagues and customers for their support. We would like to provide some reassurance we have no plans to exit any of our other stores."

In March, Asda Ltd applied for advertisement consent for its signage at the site which, although not in a Conservation Area, is close to a Grade-II listed building in the form of Hale Chapel Sunday School and schoolmaster's house.

The application for advertisement consent said the signage has no impact on the Grade-II listed building.

It said: "When assessing impacts to the Grade-II listed Hale Chapel Sunday School and schoolmaster's house the site is considered to make a neutral contribution to the significance of the listed building via setting. The proposals will result in no harm and will not affect the amenity of the area."

An opening date is still to be set in stone with the opening date of the end of this month, as reported in other local press and national press, thought to be "incorrect".

A consultation on the advertisement consent is open on the Trafford Council planning portal and the deadline for a decision by the council is at the end of next month.
