Altrincham 0 Welling Utd 4

KENT side, Welling United, arrived at the J. Davidson Stadium on Saturday without a point from their previous away travels.

They left with a comfortable and well deserved four-goal win.

Following a decent run of three games without defeat, Altrincham's most recent three fixtures have seen the Robins concede 13 goals without reply.

And, to compound their misfortunes, they not only lost Sean Williams to a first-half injury but also suffered the dismissal of defender Tom Marshall, late in the game, and Peter Cavanagh picked up a fifth booking of the season, which will mean a suspension for the combative midfielder.

Altrincham had a decent chance to take an early lead when Damian Reeves's persistence and resulting cross gave Nicky Clee a header but he cleared the bar with is effort.

But the visitors took a 13th minute lead when Gallagher started a move, which ended with Beautyman lifting the ball over the advancing Coburn from right of goal.

Alty lost Sean Williams to injury after 31 minutes, then Cavanagh picked up his booking a minute later.

After a further two minutes, Welling doubled their lead when Gallagher and Marsh carved open the Alty defence before the latter lobbed the ball over the exposed Coburn into the net.

In first-half added time, after Altrincham had lost possession cheaply, Gallagher's low shot from outside the box beat Coburn, making it 0-3.

Moments before the break, a Shaun Densmore freekick for Alty came back off the crossbar, emphasising that it was not to be Altrincham's day.

Altrincham employed all three substitutes in the second half but without ever threatening to get back into the game.

Further disaster struck, six minutes from time, when Tom Marshall was sent off as he hauled down an opponent.

From the resulting freekick, Bush's shot took a heavy deflection off the advancing Clee and flew into the net past Coburn to make it 4-0 to The Wings.
