MANCHESTER Giants will look to bounce back from a weekend to forget.

Jeff Jones men travel to old enemies Sheffield Sharks on Friday night then host Surrey United at the Trafford Sportsdome on Sunday (6pm) after exiting the BBL Cup and losing their 100 per cent home record last weekend.

The Giants got caught out on Friday night as league new boys Leeds Force came from behind to knock them out of the Cup.

The Giants led 41-34 at half-time after being a point down at 17-16 after the first quarter.

But the Yorkshire side put on a second-half push to tie the game at 55-55 at the end of the third period.

The Giants were led by an encouraging performance from Latvian guard Ingus Bankevics. He hit 18 points in his second game in club colours.

Forward Ryan Lewis made his Giants debut and bagged six points.

But guard James McCann was a thorn in the Giants’ side with a game-high 21 for the home side.

“They were hungrier than us and we never got in sync,” said coach Jeff Jones.

“They were tough and played hard – credit to them but we never got in our rhythm.

“We let them get back in the game and then they got hot and we didn’t respond.”

Ben Eaves had nine points and nine rebounds while Connor Murtagh and Callum Jones eight each.

The Giants’ fightback against the visiting Bristol came to nothing on Sunday.

The Flyers ended the Giants’ 100 per cent home record with a 82-73 win at the Sportsdome.

The Giants had led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter.

And though they were 44-39 down at half-time, Jones’ men fought back in the third period to level then take the lead.

But in the fourth, the Flyers edged into an advantage. And when they opened up a gap in the final two minutes, the Giants were forced to foul to regain the ball.

Bankevics led the scoring for the Giants, who lost centre Mike Bernard with a hip problem.

Stefan Gill and Eaves scored 15 apiece and Callum Jones had 10 plus 11 rebounds.
