Preston 0 Trafford MV 44

TRAFFORD MV travelled to Preston looking to continue their fine start to the season. Another fine day saw conditions ideal for rugby with just a small breeze blowing down the pitch.

Preston won the toss and chose to play with the advantage.

MV were quickly into their stride, running predominately straight and hard at the Preston defence which initially was solid and MV worked hard to sustain their attacks. The pressure told and eventually Worrall kicked a penalty after a series of infringements by Preston. A further penalty hit the post shortly afterwards.

Trafford pressure came to nothing until Zac Lally on the left wing received a decent ball, beat his man, held off the challenge of the full back and off loaded to the supporting Garvey who scored.

The game had now developed into a familiar pattern with Preston making decent progress then losing the ball in contact and being turned over by a much quicker TMV pack.

MV launched their own attacks for Nyhoda to get over the whitewash. Andrew Moore duly added the extras for MV to lead 18-0 at the break.

Early in the second half Preston infringed at a breakdown which saw Moore add another penalty. Moore then burst through some poor defence to go under the posts on a set piece move.

Substitute Kingdom scored from a set scrum brushing aside some poor defence. Fagan scored after pressure on Preston's backs saw them drop the ball, he kicked through and won the race to the touch down. Finally substitute Ward scored on the wing following some decent handling by the inside backs. Moore added three of the four conversions.

Man of the match was veteran Mike Worrall promoted into the side at fly half, who guided the team superbly.

Trafford MV are recruiting 11 to 14 year olds for their junior sides from local secondary schools. Anyone who wants to get into the sport should call Greg on 07834 857905.
