A FEATURE of Altrincham's season has been the team's generally good results against the leading teams and so it proved again at the weekend with a 1-1 draw at well-financed Gloucestershire side Forest Green Rovers.

Altrincham started on the back foot and fell behind in the seventh minute when quickly taken throw caught them napping.

Forest Green's Kurtis Guthrie was sent clear to score past replacement Alty goalkeeper Dave Parton, who started in place of the injured Stuart Coburn.

The home side were without three suspended players, but their resources are such that they were still able to name ex-Premier League striker Lee Hughes on the bench, while another former top-tier forward, Jon Parkin, led their attack.

Altrincham gradually grew into the game and should have equalised before half time.

Tom Marshall rose superbly to head down a cross only for Simon Richman to lift the ball over the bar from close range.

But The Robins did get level just four minutes after the interval.

It was a superb goal, swept into the net by a first-time shot from central defender Marshall from 20 yards following a Shaun Densmore free kick.

The second half saw a Parkin header hit the underside of the bar and Hughes lob an effort over Parton but well off target.

Alty had their moments, but defences remained on top.

ALTRINCHAM: Parton, Densmore (c), Havern, Marshall, Griffin, Moult, Cavanagh, Richman, Crowther, Lawrie, Reeves. Subs Perry, Gillespie, Williams, Wilkinson, Samberg.

Next up for Altrincham is a big local derby in the FA Trophy when Macclesfield Town are the visitors to the J. Davidson Stadium on Saturday, kick off 3pm.
