AFTER a resounding victory on the first week of the season, Timperley 1st XI were brought back to earth by newly-promoted Weaverham.

Weaverham won the toss and bucked the trend by batting 1st, a decision made to take advantage of the points on offer should the predicted rain arrive later in the day.

As it happened the only rain came at the start of the game, forcing it to reduce to 90 overs, 45 per side.

Weaverham batsmen were on the offensive from the start and thanks to Russell Walker (82) and James Lewis (55) managed to rack up 252-9. Jack White taking 3 wickets and Chris Page 4 for the home side.

Timperley's innings never really got going and the loss of regular wickets meant that a draw was the best they could hope for. Craig Grindley opening the batting scored 33 but never had a partner long enough to mount a run chase.

It was left to Dave Howarth to score a battling 27* to save the game for Timperley which finished in near darkness, having twice paused for bad light.

Timperley hope to put in a better performance against Davenham next Saturday

The 2s kick-started their season with a victory over neighbours Brooklands.

Winning the toss, TImperley batted 1st and racked up 260, Sharath Hosmane continuing his great start to the season with an unbeaten century, well supported by a Rob Matthews 50. Last weeks hero with the bat, Ed Galley, showed his all-round capabilities picking up five wickets as Timperley stormed to a 100 run victory.

Jason Coad (67), Louis Foster (54) and Vipal Garg (43) put Timperley 3rd XI in a winning position at Urmston but could only take 5 wickets after team as the game petered away to a draw.
