NEW Trafford boss Tom Baker has started the first step of building a strong team for next season by adding to his coaching staff.

Ex-Altrincham striker Chris Denham has landed the assistant manager role at Shawe View and Baker admits he is currently looking to bring in a goalkeeping coach for their Evo-Stik First Division North campaign.

Baker said: “I have known Chris for quite years from playing with and against him on a few occasions.

“He has been struggling with a few knee problems and has not been able to play at the same high standards because of it.

“He is very similar to me and it young fresh from playing and is enthusiastic.

"I felt I needed someone who was just as committed to coaching and developing the team as me.

"Chris was a top player and knows what is required from the post.

"He's someone I trust and I know that will fit right in at the football club."

The 30-year-old boss insists the pair have glowing CVs in non-league football and hopefully that will help them next season.

He said: "I have strong contacts at FC Halifax Town, Altrincham and Droylsden while Chris had spells at Chorley and Stalybridge and other clubs.

"It means that we can hopefully build up relationships with the clubs and get new players in."

Baker has been busy trying to get preparations ready for the new season.

He said: "I am looking to bring in a goalkeeper coach and I feel it is really important while other managers think it is not needed at this level.

"I have spoken to a couple of people and it means I will be looking to compete my coaching staff soon.

"We have spoken to quite a few players from last year and I have been given some good feedback from them.

"I am hoping to entice a few players into the club but it is a really hard time to be a football manager.

"It is a long process as most teams are trying to sign the same players.

"Meanwhile, the footballers are always looking for the best move for them and to play at the highest level they can.

"I am hoping that we can have a few players signed up for pre-season and the majority of the squad by then."

Trafford fans were given the opportunity to meet the management team at an event at the club last week.
