AN ALTRINCHAM cricket team are bracing themselves for the biggest day in their history.

Ashes series winners Steve Harmison, Simon Jones and Matthew Hoggard will join former England players Mark Ramprakash, Dean Hedley and Phil De Freitas on an England Masters team to take on Timperley CC at the Stockport Road ground on July 3.

Excitement is building as the clock ticks down until the event.

Chairman Adam Horan said: "Dave Howarth and I run the cricket section and wanted to put on an event that would be a legacy in our time.

"With no major anniversaries in the future we just thought now was as good a time as any and it would be good to raise money for the club.

"We want to engage with the local community and businesses to get them to come down to watch a great event.

"It is going to be an unbelievably strong line-up and there are some big names and hopefully they can attract people down at the ground.

"Some of the guys were involved in the 2005 Ashes victory which is the epitomy of England cricket success.

"Most people have memories of that great occasion and it will be a exciting."

The game will be a 20/20 format will start at 4.30pm with gates opening at 3.30pm and there will be corporate lunches and matchday packages on offer.

Tickets can be bought online or alternatively they are available behind the bar.

They are priced at £10 for adults, £6 for kids and £22 family ticket.

Horan added: "It will be in aid of the England Cricket Benevolent fund which helps former players with training after they leave the game and find jobs.

"We are also raising some money for the club too.

"All of our players are really looking forward to the game and the team will be made up of current players and a couple of up-and-coming ones.

"It will be the biggest event in the club's history that we have hosted.

"The excitement is really building and will allow us to take the focus off our league form."

On Saturday, Timperley suffered a seven-wicket defeat to Christleton.

After losing the toss Asif Iqbal (96), Josh Hampson (48) and Jack White (30) helped Timperley to 244.
