TRAFFORD MV's 1st XV continued their impressive form with a 40-7 victory against Garstang as they continue to lead at the top of the Lancashire (North) League.

MV imposed themselves early winning good set piece ball and getting the better at the breakdown.

High scoring centre Jamie Kingdon opened the scoring as he broke through some weak tackling out wide to cross the line wide right, Pat Eccles had his kicking boots on and converted comfortably for an early 0-7 lead.

MV's next score came from the equally prolific try scorer prop Paul Davenport, who took a catch and drive off a lineout deep in Garstang territory to bustle his way over from close range.

Eccles was once again spot on with the conversion 0-14 for MV.

The game was going all MV's way now and confidence was high as plays were forced and the pressure to score was increased.

Forward pressure was intense and MV struck, taking a scrum against the head for flanker Sean Garvey to support the back row break and take a slipped pass to storm over close to the posts to put MV 21-0 ahead.

MV's next score, securing yet another bonus point, cane from left wing Luke Wheeler who outpaced his marker following good quick hands to score wide in the corner.

With a gusty breeze against him this was Eccles first missed kick of the half with MV now at 0-26.

The writing seemed to be on the wall as half time approached and from the base of a scrum well into the Garstang half scrum half and former captain Eccles picked up from the base and scooted round the back row defence to slide in under the sticks.

He converted his own try to give a convincing 0-33 lead at the break.

Garstang upped their performance rate to get back into the game and more possession came their way. defence also stepped up and MV's onslaught was halted.

Garstang hit back with a try from Max Everest which brought some consolation.

It was not until late in the half that MV managed to score again this time for Paul Davenport's second of the match with Eccles again converting to give a final scoreline of 7-40 for MV to enhance their lead at the top of the league.

Trafford MV's 2nd XV beat Fleetwood 11-10, the 3rd XV won against Eagle 2nd XV 28-18 and the Junior Colts U17's side won away at Caldy 15-24 for their first win of the season competing in a very tough 'A' division.
