FOUR second-half goals gave Trafford a comfortable 4-0 victory in a scrappy encounter at Shawe View.

Tom Baker’s side stormed forward from the start with right-back Mitch Duggan squandering two great chances in the first three minutes.

Chris McDonagh broke clear in the inside right channel but saw his shot parried by Chris Backhouse, who then tipped a cracking drive by Jack Dorney over the bar.

The game then became scrappy and disjointed, although it wasn’t helped by a lengthy delay when Ossett midfielder Tyrone Gay suffered a dislocated knee and was taken to hospital.

Duggan pulled the ball across the face of the Town goal in the opening stages of the second half but no one was on hand to apply the finishing touch and in the 57th minute Trafford keeper Russ Saunders was forced into a full-length save to thwart David Brown.

In the 63rd minute Trafford substitute Chris Palmer replaced debutant Keenan Quansah and within two minutes the hosts broke the deadlock, McDonagh cutting in from the right and crossing hard and low for Dorney to bundle the ball home from close range.

McDonagh then volleyed just wide following a fine cross by Aaron Burns and in the 72nd minute, the latter broke clear and appeared to be tripped by Town centre-back Simon Rogers.

Referee Baines ignored Trafford’s appeals for a penalty but justice was served within seconds when Burns broke clear once more and coolly placed the ball past the advancing Backhouse to make it 2-0.

It was now all Trafford and after Connor Martin had fired wide from the edge of the area and Lee Neville had curled a free kick over the bar, McDonagh made it 3-0 with a simple tap in after great work by Martin.

Trafford’s third substitute, Sam Noar, was introduced into the fray and he also made an immediate impact, forcing a good save from Backhouse before completing the scoring in stoppage time with a back-post header following a right wing corner by Kyle Jacobs.

Manager Baker was delighted with the emphatic victory, particularly as this was Trafford’s first game for three weeks due to the recent poor weather.

On Saturday the Shawe View boys make the long journey up to the north east for a tough league encounter at Spennymoor Town.
