TRAFFORD twice came from behind to draw 2-2 and earn a precious Evo-Stik First Division North point at promotion-chasing Spennymoor.

Third-placed Town kicked off with both the sloping pitch and the biting wind in their favour and they stormed ahead after just five minutes when Nathan Fisher broke clear down the right and coolly placed the ball past Russ Saunders and into the bottom corner.

Aaron Burns fired just over in the 24th minute and then saw a goal disallowed for offside as Trafford battled gamely to get back on level terms before Town striker Liam Henderson struck a fierce drive inches over the bar under pressure from Josh Granite.

In the 45th minute Trafford keeper Saunders produced a magnificent full-length save to thwart Andrew Stephenson and within seconds the visitors found themselves back on level terms when left-back Lee Neville swung a free kick in from the right and Aaron Burns skilfully guided his header over goalkeeper Daniel Lowson.

With the elements in their favour, Trafford dominated the opening stages of the second half but were unable to break down the well-drilled home defence.

Gradually the hosts took control of the game and in the 63rd minute Saunders pushed a thunderous drive by Stephenson round the post.

The Trafford keeper then brilliantly tipped a Craig Gott effort past the upright but couldn’t prevent Town from regaining the lead in the 65th minute when danger man Fisher crossed hard and low from the right and substitute James Risbrough bundled the ball home at the back post.

Risbrough then headed well wide from just eight yards as Town sought a third goal but with just five minutes remaining Trafford once again showed great strength of character to draw level.

Jack Dorney was upended to the right of the Town penalty area and Neville once again showed his free kick expertise with a wicked inswinging drive that flew over the packed goalmouth and nestled inside the far post.

Trafford sensed an upset and pushed forward in search of the winner, Neville blasting a great angled drive inches over and then substitute Connor Martin volleying over from 15 yards.

The final whistle signalled the end of an entertaining game played in atrocious conditions and a deserved point for Tom Baker’s young side.

On Saturday Trafford are on their travels once more when they play Radcliffe Borough in a league fixture kicking off at 3pm and then on Tuesday night they visit Mossley for a Manchester Premier Cup semi-final kicking off at 7.45pm.
