TIMPERLEY Sports Club has been awarded a grant of just over £72,000 from Sport England to install a new cricket square at its Stockport Road ground.
The sports club is home to Timperley Cricket Club who last year achieved promotion into the Cheshire Cricket Premier League for the first time.
The square will be ready in time for the clubs 140th anniversary in 2017.
The project also includes new outfield drainage that will see improved playing surfaces for Timperley Lacrosse Club and Timperley FC, who are also members of the sports club. It will mean that more matches can escape the bad weather and enable greater usage of the clubs facilities through the winter season in particular.
For the cricket section in particular it will mean a top class playing surface to rival anything in the North West.
Cricket chairman Bob Page said: ‘This season has been important to consolidate our first and second team in the top flight and the new wicket should help attract more top class players to the club in 2017. It’s a great step forward.”
Timperley Sports Club membership has now grown to more than 900. It not only offers an extensive range of sporting facilities for children and adults but has also become a real community centre with classes than include, tai chi, salsa, yoga, and weightwatchers each weekday morning.
The club is also the home for a number of other organised clubs and societies who simply want a base for meetings and social events. If you are looking for somewhere to for your group, then get in touch with the club on 0161 980 4397 or email info@timperley-sports.com
