TENNIS players in the borough now have a great opportunity to play friendly, competitive tennis matches in the new Trafford Tennis League.

Open to men and women aged 18 and above, the league is for players of all standards.

Players are organised into groups of six to eight people of a similar level and arrange their own matches at mutually convenient times over an eight week round.

Entry costs £15 per round and each player has between five to seven matches to play. Players may use any court that suits them both. With no annual membership to worry about, and only court fees to pay if applicable, it’s an affordable way to play friendly, competitive tennis.

Players submit results via their phone or online and can see all the other results and match commentaries in their groups.

There are prizes for the winners of each group and a free can of tennis balls for all players who complete three matches by the midway point of a round.

"We are delighted to be running a new league in Trafford," says Sally Kinnes, co-founder of Local Tennis Leagues.

"Public courts often have events for children, but adults should not be forgotten. Tennis is one of the healthiest sports you can play and the league is a great opportunity to keep fit and make new tennis friends. Our players enjoy the flexibility of playing matches when it suits but also having a close match when they do play.”

The new Trafford Tennis League kicks off on September 1, with sign-ups online by August 29.
