A teenage BMX rider from Sale has a big dream to race for Team GB at the Olympics - but needs sponsorship to aid his bid.

Sixteen-year-old Harry Tanner has been competing in the sport since the age of five and is currently ranked number three at junior men’s level - 17-18-year-old and number one in the UK.

He already has European Championships third and fourth-place finished under his belt.

The youngster who trains at Platt Fields, in Fallowfield, was selected for the British Cycling Olympic Development Squad last year and is now looking to make his Olympic dream a reality.

He has already overcome the challenge of recovering from a crash in 2021 that saw him shatter his elbow and unable to train for nine months.

But those setbacks have made him even more determined to succeed, according to proud mum, Leah Walker.

She said: “Harry is always first on the track and last off it, his work ethic is amazing but I am most proud of how good he is with the younger riders who look up to him.

"He always makes time to chat to them and give little pointers on how to improve on the race track."

To successfully race BMX at top level means that as well as 10 UK races, the teenager is required to race in Europe to give him the best chance of being selected by British Cycling to race at the World Championships.

A full season of racing can equate to £17,000-plus and while there are seven European race weekends this season, British Cycling only fund one with a race weekend in Europe costing in the region of £2,000.

He is currently juggling his college course, training and a part-time job but Leah says any sponsorship he could find would be a massive boost.

All UK races are shown live on BMX Race Hub YouTube channel, while European races are shown on the UEC website and the European Championships and World Championships are shown on Eurosport.

Any company or individual interested in sponsoring Harry can contact Leah Walker by email to leah.walker65@hotmail.com or by calling her on 07834 921337.

There are packages ranging from £50-£1,000 offering a range of benefits.
